Tarique Rahman attended his father’s grave visitation.

Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), paid a solemn visit to the grave of his father, the late President and national martyr Ziaur Rahman, on Friday at 4:42 pm. Upon arrival, Tarique first laid flowers at the gravesite as a mark of respect, followed by offering prayers and reciting supplications.

Earlier in the afternoon, shortly before 3:00 pm, Tarique departed from his residence in Gulshan en route to Zia Uddan. He travelled in a bus decorated in the red and green colours of the national flag, the same vehicle he had used the previous day to travel from the airport to a public reception. As on Thursday, Tarique waved to party leaders and supporters from the front of the bus. Due to the large crowds gathered along the route, his convoy proceeded at a slow pace, drawing considerable attention from the public.

From the morning onwards, BNP and its affiliated organisation leaders and supporters assembled in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and the surrounding areas of Zia Uddan. Many carried party flags, banners, and posters, demonstrating their enthusiasm and loyalty. The gathering reflected the significant support for Tarique and the continuing reverence for his late father among party cadres.

Following the graveside visit, Tarique is scheduled to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, further emphasising the connection between the BNP leadership and Bangladesh’s historic struggle for independence.

This visit comes a day after Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on Thursday, marking his first presence in the country in 17 years. His return has generated widespread public and media attention, with political observers noting the symbolic significance of his homage to his father’s resting place and the subsequent tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters.
