Khulna, 11 January: A 30-year-old man was shot dead in Ruppsa, Khulna, in a brazen attack that has shocked the local community. The victim, identified as Abdur Rashed, also known as Bikul, was killed in the Bagmara area of Ruppsa Thana around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 10 January.
Bikul, a resident of Bagmara in Ruppsa Upazila, was the son of Abdul Awal. According to police and local sources, assailants opened fire on him at Kadamtala Balur Field in the Naihati Union of Ruppsa Upazila, firing three successive shots.
He was immediately rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital in critical condition, but despite efforts to save him, Bikul succumbed to his injuries at approximately 2:00 a.m. His body is currently preserved in the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the killing may have been related to disputes over local dominance or influence. However, the exact motive and the identities of the perpetrators remain under investigation.
Ruppsa Thana’s duty officer, SI Saimun, confirmed the incident, stating, “OC Abdur Razzak Mir, along with other members of the police, visited the crime scene last night. Investigations are underway to uncover the motive and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.”
The local community expressed shock and fear over the incident, noting that such violent acts are rare in the normally peaceful region. Police have appealed to anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
