Renowned Bangladeshi actress Shahnaz Sumi has recently embarked on a new professional journey, joining BRAC’s Health Programme. Fresh from completing her graduation, Sumi has taken her first formal step into the workforce while continuing to maintain her presence in the film industry.
Speaking about her new role, Sumi stated, “I have joined BRAC’s Health Programme, an institution deeply involved in a variety of health-related initiatives across Bangladesh. Over the years, BRAC has played a pivotal role in supporting communities during natural disasters and public health challenges. I am genuinely thrilled to contribute to such a meaningful sector.”
Sumi had initially intended to focus entirely on her acting career. However, academic commitments forced her to temporarily set aside her film aspirations. “I had two films in the final stages, but taking them on during my semester would have conflicted with my studies. I felt it was important to complete my education first. Film offers will continue to come, and I can pursue them later. If one remains determined, everything becomes achievable,” she explained.
Despite her new professional responsibilities, Sumi is committed to balancing both acting and her role at BRAC. She remarked, “I have never taken on more than two projects in a single year. I select my work carefully to avoid overcommitment. Last year, I worked on Ondhokarer Gaan; the year before that, Mobaraknama. If a compelling opportunity arises this year, I will adjust my schedule accordingly. There is no reason for conflict.”
The following table summarises Sumi’s recent professional milestones and plans:
| Aspect | Details |

Through this dual commitment, Shahnaz Sumi exemplifies a new generation of professionals who navigate both public service and creative industries with equal determination, setting a notable example for young aspirants across the country.
