Speedboat Recovered, Youth Arrested in Chandpur

In a significant breakthrough, Chandpur river police have recovered a stolen speedboat from the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj, marking a swift response in the ongoing crackdown on waterborne thefts. The operation also led to the arrest of a 26-year-old man, Mohammad Abdul Kader, a resident of Kalirchar in Munshiganj.

The recovery and arrest were confirmed on Saturday, 17 January, by Sub-Inspector Sufal Chandra Singh of the Chandpur River Police. Speaking to the media, he detailed that the operation was launched following a complaint filed at the Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station regarding the theft of a speedboat. A coordinated and systematic effort by the river police across multiple jurisdictions ultimately led to the identification and apprehension of the prime suspect in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.

Upon interrogation, Abdul Kader provided crucial information that enabled police to locate the stolen vessel. Later on the same day, officers conducted a raid in Shyamalapur, under the Savar Police jurisdiction of Dhaka District. The operation targeted a canal adjacent to the south side of the Bricks Field, along the Buriganga River. There, they successfully recovered a 200cc speedboat valued at approximately BDT 1.6 million. The boat, painted in a combination of sky blue and white, is now secured at Chandpur River Police station as part of ongoing investigative procedures.

Authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway to determine if there are additional accomplices involved in the crime. The swift recovery has been hailed as an exemplary instance of inter-district police coordination and a testament to the effectiveness of river patrols in preventing organised theft on waterways.
