Chhatra Dal to submit memorandum on behalf of Salauddin Ammar demanding mental health treatment

The Rajshahi University chapter of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (BJCD) has announced plans to submit a memorandum and hold a human chain, calling for a comprehensive mental health assessment and necessary treatment for Salauuddin Ammar, General Secretary of the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RACSU).

In a press release issued on Sunday (19 January) and signed by the organisation’s Deputy Secretary, Siam Bin Ayyub, the student wing outlined the rationale behind the initiative.

The statement highlighted recent incidents on campus, describing them as “various unbecoming behaviours and provocative situations” that have raised concerns about maintaining a safe and educational environment. It emphasised the need for mental health evaluation and psychosocial support for Salauuddin Ammar to ensure the continuation of a peaceful campus atmosphere.

“In light of recent campus incidents, it is essential to ensure the mental well-being and psychosocial support for RACSU General Secretary Salauuddin Ammar. To this end, a memorandum will be submitted to the esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University,” the press release read.

The human chain demonstration is scheduled for Monday, 20 January, at 1:00 pm, and will involve active participation from students across all halls and faculties. The leadership of BJCD Rajshahi University chapter, including President Sultan Ahmed Rahi and General Secretary Sardar Zahurul Islam, has urged all student representatives to attend the event.

The BJCD statement underscores that the initiative is intended to foster a supportive environment on campus and prevent escalation of tensions. It also reflects a broader concern for the mental health of student leaders amid heightened campus pressures.

The student wing has expressed hope that the administration will respond promptly and provide the necessary psychological and social support to safeguard both the welfare of the individual concerned and the overall stability of the university community.
