Origins and Mission
Founded under the leadership of Sajed Fatemi on 25 January 2006, Nokshikatha officially debuted as a band on 25 January 2007. Over twenty years, the group has not only produced music but also positioned itself as a sustained cultural and social movement, blending artistic expression with civic engagement.
“Initially, I performed street theatre through NGOs—on dengue awareness, women’s reproductive health, child labour, child marriage, and racial discrimination,” says Fatemi. “Later, I realised that music could carry these messages to a far larger audience.”
Purpose-Driven Music
Each Nokshikatha song serves as more than entertainment; it is a vehicle for protest, reflection, and dialogue. Themes ranging from river and forest conservation to women’s rights, child welfare, racial equality, and border violence are embedded in their compositions.
