Authorities have arrested six individuals in connection with an attack on police during a robbery-related incident in the Adabor area of the capital. The arrests were made by the Rapid Action Battalion-2 (Rapid Action Battalion-2), which also identified one of the detainees as Abu Sayeed, reportedly known as the “second in command” of the so-called “Kobjikata Anowar Group”.
In a WhatsApp message issued on Wednesday, RAB-2 confirmed the arrests and stated that detailed information would be disclosed later in a press briefing scheduled at 3:00 pm at the RAB media centre in Karwan Bazar.
According to police and RAB sources, the incident began on Tuesday in the Shekhertek area of Adabor when a robbery targeting a bKash agent escalated into violence. Following the incident, police launched an operation to detain those involved. During the process, the suspects allegedly attacked law enforcement personnel, injuring two officers.
Officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) confirmed that the Officer-in-Charge of Adabor Police Station, Jahidul Islam, and Sub-Inspector Tarun were injured when assailants attacked them with sharp weapons. Police later responded in self-defence, discharging firearms, which left two suspects injured. Four individuals were detained at the scene, including the injured suspects.

Doctors confirmed that both injured police officers received primary treatment and are currently out of danger, according to additional statements from the Mohammadpur zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Background of the group
Investigating officers stated that those involved are linked to the “Kobjikata Anowar Group”, a criminal network reportedly active for an extended period in the Mohammadpur and Adabor areas. The group is associated with a wider pattern of organised criminal activity including robbery, extortion, drug trafficking, and violent assaults.
Law enforcement sources further noted that the group was founded by Anowar Hossain, who faces multiple cases involving theft, robbery, extortion, drug offences, assault, and murder-related charges. Authorities claim he has been implicated in more than a dozen criminal cases.
Officials also stated that members of the group previously used extreme intimidation tactics, including assaults intended to spread fear in local communities. Despite Anowar Hossain’s arrest and imprisonment in February 2025, the network reportedly continued operating through fragmented sub-groups. Police suspect that some factions are currently operating under the influence of another group known as “Axel Babu”.
Crime situation in Mohammadpur–Adabor
Police data indicates that Mohammadpur and Adabor remain among the most crime-affected areas in the capital. More than fifty organised criminal groups are believed to be active in these areas. At least seventeen of these groups are reportedly involved in recurring criminal activities such as robbery, extortion, land grabbing, drug distribution, and hired violence.
Each group is estimated to consist of approximately 15 to 20 members, with income sources largely derived from illicit activities. Law enforcement agencies have intensified targeted operations in response to the recent rise in violent incidents, including the attack on police personnel in Adabor. Investigations and arrest operations remain ongoing.
