The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) successfully conducted its undergraduate entrance examination for the 2025–26 academic session on Saturday. A total of 9,051 students sat the examination for 1,309 available seats across 13 departments, highlighting the high demand for engineering and architecture education in the country. The final merit list, including selected and waiting candidates, is expected to be published on 7 February.
The examination was held in two modules at the BUET campus. ‘Module A’ covered various engineering departments and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, while ‘Module B’ included these departments as well as the Department of Architecture.
According to a BUET press release, the schedule for the day was as follows:
Module A: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm – Candidates from Group A and B sat papers in Higher Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Module B: 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm – Candidates from Group B undertook open syllabus tests in freehand drawing and visual-spatial reasoning.
BUET’s Public Relations Office reported an attendance rate of 87.44 per cent. Out of 10,351 eligible candidates selected based on application verification and academic merit, 7,644 were male and 2,707 female.

The press release further noted that three reserved seats were allocated for ethnic minority students from the Chittagong Hill Tracts and other regions within the engineering and urban planning departments, while one reserved seat was provided in the architecture department. No department received more than one reserved seat.
This year’s examination underscores BUET’s continued reputation for academic excellence and its strict merit-based selection process. The administration ensured a fair and transparent examination environment, accommodating thousands of students from across the country.
The results, to be announced on 7 February, will finalise admission to BUET’s 13 departments, marking a significant milestone for the 2025–26 academic session.
