A total of five pupils were injured after a ceiling fan detached and fell during a classroom session at a government primary school in Fatulla, Narayanganj.
The incident occurred on Wednesday (6 May) at approximately 11:30 am in the classroom of Class Two at Aliganj Government Primary School, located in Fatulla. At the time of the accident, teaching activities were ongoing when the ceiling fan suddenly came loose and fell into the classroom.
Among the injured, two Class Two pupils have been identified as Pranjal and Jahanara. The identities of the remaining three injured pupils were not immediately confirmed. All injured students received local medical attention following the incident.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the fan fell abruptly from the ceiling while the classroom was in use. Md. Moshiur Reza Sajib, a former student of the school who was present at the time, stated that he had entered the classroom when the incident occurred. He reported that the fan detached immediately upon entry and fell into the room. He further noted that although the fan did not strike any pupil directly on the head, it caused injuries through contact with its blades, resulting in five pupils being hurt.
Another former student, Abu Jafar, said that they were visiting the school at the invitation of the head teacher when the incident took place shortly after their arrival. He also remarked that the school building is in a deteriorated condition and highlighted the need for urgent reconstruction of the facility.
The head teacher of the institution, Mahmudah Ahmed, confirmed that the ceiling fan fell during class hours. She stated that the school building has been in a dilapidated condition for an extended period, which contributed to the occurrence of the accident. She also mentioned that an application has already been submitted for the construction of a new building.
The District Primary Education Officer of Narayanganj, Ferdausi Begum, stated that she was not previously aware of the incident. She added that the matter would be investigated and necessary measures would be taken accordingly.
