Child Dies in Valuka Road Tragedy

A tragic road accident in Valuka upazila of Mymensingh has claimed the life of a five-year-old schoolboy who was on his way to school with his mother. The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety near educational institutions in the area.

The deceased, Farhan Ahmed (5), was a nursery class student at Holybright Model School. He was the son of Liton Ahmed, a driver by profession, and resided in the Dhamsur village under Mallikbari Union.

According to local sources, the accident occurred on Thursday morning, 7 May, while Farhan was accompanying his mother to school via the Dhamsur–Mamarishpur road. As they approached the vicinity of Haimunnesa Chowdhurani Girls High School, the child suddenly broke away from his mother’s hand and attempted to cross the road.

At that moment, an auto-rickshaw travelling from Dhamsur towards Valuka Panchrasta struck him at speed. The impact left the child critically injured on the spot, causing panic among passers-by and local residents who quickly rushed to assist.

He was initially taken to the Valuka Upazila Health Complex for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to Churkhai Medical College Hospital for advanced care. Despite medical efforts, Farhan succumbed to his injuries at approximately 9:00 am on Friday.
