Students of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) staged a protest rally and demonstration condemning the alleged attack on Dhaka University Students’ Union (DUSU) leader A B Jubayer (Yubair bin Nesari) and Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad. The protest also strongly denounced reported assaults on journalists working at Dhaka University.
The programme was held on Thursday night at around 11:30 pm at the university’s Gol Chattar (Round Circle). Following the rally, a protest march was organised, beginning from Gol Chattar and passing through Sohrawardy Hall, Alাওল Hall, and the Security Office before returning to its starting point. During the march, CUCSU activists raised various slogans demanding exemplary punishment for those allegedly involved in the incidents.
Speakers at the gathering alleged that the attacks were premeditated and had contributed to creating an unstable environment on campus. They warned that academic activities would be severely disrupted if the safety of students could not be guaranteed.
CUCSU’s Secretary for Communication and Accommodation Affairs, Ishaq Bhuiyan, stated that although Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad and A B Jubayer are politically active, they were allegedly attacked inside a police station. He further emphasised that no form of violence or campus domination would be tolerated.
General Secretary Saeed bin Habib said that even elected student representatives were attacked while attempting to rescue a student who had been allegedly confined. He also referred to incidents of violence against students and civilians in different places, describing the recurrence as deeply concerning.
Vice-President Md Ibrahim remarked that there had been expectations of an end to violent politics following a political transition, but such expectations had not been fulfilled. He called for legal action against those responsible for creating conflict and unrest on campus.
Other student leaders also addressed the rally, jointly condemning the violence and demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators. They urged the administration and relevant authorities to ensure a safe and peaceful academic environment.
