A 26-year-old construction worker has been found dead in Chapainawabganj district of Bangladesh in what police suspect to be a case of suicide involving pesticide ingestion.
The deceased, identified as Md Shakil, son of Md Zakaria, was a resident of Hatoramchandrapur village under Ranihati Union in Sadar upazila. The incident occurred on Friday morning (1 May), prompting shock and concern within the local community.
According to police and local sources, Shakil allegedly consumed pesticide inside his bedroom at his family home around 9:30 am, without the knowledge of other household members. Shortly afterwards, family members discovered him in a critical condition and rushed him to Chapainawabganj District Hospital in an attempt to save his life.
Despite medical efforts, the attending doctor declared him dead at approximately 1:30 pm.
Police later recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the district morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have stated that the initial assessment suggests the possibility of suicide, potentially linked to mental health struggles, although the investigation remains ongoing.
