Could Maaz Sadakat Become Pakistan’s Next International Icon?

Pakistan has consistently produced some of cricket’s brightest talents. Legends such as Imran Khan, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, and today’s stars like Babar Azam have all made their mark on the international stage. Yet, even now, the country’s cricket pipeline brims with talented youngsters eager to leave their own mark. Among these is Maaz Sadakat, a 20-year-old all-rounder, whom former South African pacer Wayne Parnell believes possesses all the qualities to become Pakistan’s next superstar.

Maaz Sadakat is a left-handed batsman and orthodox spinner. He first attracted attention while playing for Pakistan Shaheens in the Asia Cup Rising Stars Championship, where his all-round performances helped his team claim the title. Currently, he is showcasing his talent in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) for the Janakpur Bolts, under the leadership of Wayne Parnell.

In the NPL, Maaz has played three matches, scoring 95 runs at an average of 31.66 with a strike rate of 179.24. His most recent performance against Chitwan Rhinos was extraordinary: 63 runs off 30 balls, a display of power-hitting and timing. But Maaz is equally capable with the ball, having taken three wickets at an economy rate of 6.50, showing his value as a true all-rounder.

Parnell has been vocal about Maaz’s potential. On Instagram, he shared a selfie with Maaz, captioning it: “Pakistan’s next superstar (Maaz Sadakat).” Such praise from an experienced international cricketer highlights the young player’s rising profile.

Maaz’s dominance was particularly evident in the Asia Cup Rising Stars Championship. Across five innings, he scored 258 runs at an astonishing average of 129, including two unbeaten half-centuries. With the ball, he claimed seven wickets at an average of 7.42, maintaining an exceptional economy rate of just 4.33. His all-round brilliance earned him the Player of the Tournament award.

A standout performance came against arch-rivals India, where he took two wickets for just 12 runs and followed this by an unbeaten 79 off 47 balls, guiding Pakistan to a thrilling victory. Performances like these illustrate not only his talent but also his composure under pressure.

With his consistent performances in domestic and emerging leagues, Maaz Sadakat is emerging as a true prospect for Pakistan cricket. While it remains to be seen how far he will go on the international stage, the talent, maturity, and endorsements from experts like Wayne Parnell suggest that Pakistan may well have found a new cricketing star. Fans, selectors, and the global cricketing community will be watching closely as Maaz continues his rise.
