Football fans in Dhaka will enjoy more than just the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday night, as the capital is set to host a series of special live events combining giant-screen match viewing with musical performances. Separate concerts featuring internationally recognised DJ and music producer Sanjoy Deb and popular Bangladeshi singer Pritom Hasan are expected to add to the festive atmosphere surrounding the Argentina-Spain title decider.
The celebrations have been organised to coincide with one of the biggest fixtures in international football, giving supporters an opportunity to watch the final together while enjoying performances by some of Bangladesh’s best-known entertainers.
Sanjoy Deb, a Bangladesh-born international DJ and music producer, arrives in Dhaka after an eventful World Cup campaign overseas. He drew widespread attention after performing alongside Bollywood actress and performer Nora Fatehi during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Canada. Following that appearance, he took part in several World Cup fan festivals held across different cities in the United States, performing before international football audiences.
His appearance in Dhaka forms part of that continuing World Cup journey. Sanjoy has already arrived in the city and visited the concert venue ahead of the event.
Speaking about the performance, he said he was delighted to return to the city where his musical journey first began. Reflecting on his recent appearances at World Cup-related events, he noted that performing in front of a home audience carries a special significance and expressed his excitement about sharing the stage with Bangladeshi fans once again.
The concert will also feature performances by DJs Trisha and Rishad, creating an entertainment programme that extends beyond football. According to the organisers, Sanjoy is scheduled to leave for California immediately after the event, where he is expected to perform at another concert in San Francisco.
A separate event titled Final Kickoff will also be held at the United Convention Centre in Dhaka. The programme will allow supporters to watch the World Cup final live on a giant screen before enjoying a full-scale concert featuring leading Bangladeshi artists.
Singer Pritom Hasan will headline the musical segment, while Firoz Jung, The Brown Testament and Jessia Islam are also scheduled to perform. The organisers have announced that the event will run from the night of 19 July until the morning of 20 July, ensuring that spectators can experience both the excitement of the World Cup final and a night of live entertainment.
Large-scale public screenings of major football tournaments have become increasingly popular in Bangladesh, particularly during World Cup finals. By combining live football with concerts, organisers aim to create a festival-like atmosphere where supporters can celebrate the sport collectively. Sunday’s events are expected to attract large crowds, reflecting the enduring passion for international football among Bangladeshi fans and offering an evening that blends sport, music and entertainment into a single celebration.
