A 73-year-old man, Fojar Ali, tragically died after being struck by a motorbike during a political motorcycle showdown in Satkhira, organised by Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated candidate and central organisational secretary, Muhaddis Abdul Khalek. The incident occurred on Saturday, 22 November, in the Badamtala Bazar area of Alipur Union, Sadar Upazila.
According to family members, Fojar Ali, a resident of Karigorpara, was crossing the road on his way to prayer when he was hit by one of the motorbikes participating in the event. His nephew, Shamsuzzaman, said locals immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead. His funeral was held later that night in Badamtala.
Local eyewitnesses and officials described the circumstances of the accident in detail. Iqbal Hossain, a member of the Alipur Union Parishad, explained that the showdown began at the bypass roundabout near Satkhira Polytechnic College and proceeded along various roads. Fojar Ali was struck while crossing the street and fell onto the road, dying before he could reach medical care.
Habibur Rahman, general secretary of Jamaat’s Satkhira Sadar Upazila unit, stated that Fojar Ali was a supporter of their organisation. He claimed that the victim was standing by the roadside when he was hit by the looking glass of a motorbike, which caused him to fall and suffer fatal injuries.
SI Mehedi Hasan of Satkhira Sadar Police Station confirmed that an unnatural death case has been recorded. As the family did not file a formal complaint, the police completed an inquest and handed over the body to the relatives.
