In Tangail’s Bhuapur upazila, four individuals have been arrested by police on charges of preparing to commit robbery. Law enforcement officials also recovered a range of locally made weapons and tools allegedly intended for use in criminal activity.
According to police sources, the arrests were made on Monday night (4 May) in the Ghatanandi Notunpara area, following intelligence provided by confidential informants. Acting on the information, a police team conducted an operation at the ground floor of a house belonging to a local resident named Nazrul in the area. The suspects were detained at approximately 10:30 pm while they were reportedly gathered to plan a robbery.
During the operation, several items believed to be associated with robbery were seized from their possession. These included an iron cutter, cutting pliers, chains, scissors, a switchblade, knives, and a machete (locally known as a ‘chopper’). Police indicated that the recovered tools were consistent with equipment commonly used in forced entry and robbery attempts.
Local residents have described the arrested individuals as active members of an organised robbery group operating in the region. However, authorities have not independently verified these local claims beyond the ongoing investigation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as follows:
| Name | Age | Father’s Name | Village | Upazila |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rabiul | 38 | Ahsan Ali Akand | Bholarpara | Gopalpur |
| Monir (alias Nangra Monir) | 38 | Golam Hossain | Kukadai | Bhuapur |

| Masud | 32 | A Aziz | Shyamsail | Kalihati |
Police confirmed that the arrests were carried out by Sub-Inspector Nazrul Islam and Sub-Inspector Rubel Mia, along with a team of accompanying personnel. During the raid, some additional associates of the group reportedly managed to flee the scene upon sensing the presence of law enforcement. A search operation may continue to apprehend those who escaped, though no further details have been officially released regarding their identities.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhuapur Police Station, Md Sabbir Rahman, stated that the arrested individuals have multiple pending cases across different police stations in the country. These include allegations related to robbery, dacoity, drug-related offences, and murder. He further noted that, during preliminary questioning, the suspects admitted their involvement in planning robbery activities.
Following the arrests, police have registered a case at Bhuapur Police Station under charges relating to preparation for robbery. The accused have since been produced before the court as part of standard legal procedures.
This incident forms part of ongoing law enforcement efforts in the region aimed at preventing organised criminal activity, particularly robbery-related offences. Investigations into the broader network and possible additional members remain underway.
