A 26-year-old man was brutally killed after being allegedly called to a rented residence by a friend in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Savar, Bangladesh, in a late-night incident that has shocked the local community.
The victim, Parvez Hossain, originally from Ranigaon village in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district, had been living with his wife in a rented house in the Gohailbari Machimpur area of Ashulia. According to police and eyewitness accounts, he was summoned to a nearby residence in the Konapara area around 11:30 pm on Sunday night (11 May), where the fatal attack occurred.
The accused, identified as Shahadat Hossain, is alleged to have invited Parvez to the house where both were temporarily residing as tenants at Haji Zainal’s property in Konapara. Shahadat, originally from Kolaikati Kumarpur village under Gaibandha Sadar police station, reportedly engaged in a heated altercation with Parvez shortly after his arrival. The argument quickly escalated, culminating in Shahadat allegedly striking Parvez from behind with a sharp machete-like blade before fleeing the scene.
Local residents rushed the severely injured Parvez to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route due to excessive blood loss.
Police from Ashulia Police Station later arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue for post-mortem examination. Authorities also detained Shahadat’s parents and brother for questioning in connection with the incident, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the prime suspect, who remains on the run.
The incident has raised concerns among residents of the area, where multiple tenants reside in close quarters, often leading to disputes over personal and domestic matters.
