Insurance Reporters Forum Announces New Executive Committee

The Insurance Reporters Forum (IRF), a professional association of journalists reporting on Bangladesh’s insurance sector, has elected a new executive committee for the 2026–2027 term following its latest Annual General Meeting.

The election took place on Tuesday, 28 April, at the auditorium of the Capital Market Journalists Forum (CMJF). Members of the organisation participated in a formal voting process to select office bearers, marking another orderly transition of leadership within the forum.

Golam Mawla of Bangla Tribune was elected President after receiving 33 votes, comfortably ahead of his closest challenger, Md Rahim Sheikh of Rupali Bangladesh, who secured 14 votes. The result reflected a clear mandate from participating members.

For the post of General Secretary, Gias Uddin of Banijjo Protidin won with 28 votes, defeating Ibrahim Ali of Kalbela, who obtained 18 votes. The position is regarded as one of the most influential within the organisation, responsible for coordinating day-to-day administrative and professional activities.

Several key posts were filled without contest. Abdur Rahman Abir of Insurance News BD was elected Treasurer unopposed, while Masud Mia of Amader Orthoneeti assumed the role of Vice President without opposition. Nazmul Islam Faruk of RisingBD was similarly elected Joint Secretary without contest, reflecting broad consensus among members for these positions.

In the executive committee category, Shah Alam Noor of Dainik Naya Diganta and Azibul Haque Partho of RTNN were elected after securing 32 and 29 votes respectively. Their inclusion completes the core leadership structure of the new committee.

The election process was overseen by a three-member Election Commission tasked with ensuring transparency and procedural integrity. The commission was chaired by Ashraful Islam, City Editor of Dainik Naya Diganta and a founding member of the IRF. He was joined by Golam Samdani Bhuiyan, founding President of the organisation, and Monir Hossain, President of CMJF.

The newly formed committee will serve a two-year term from 2026 to 2027. Its mandate is expected to include strengthening professional standards in insurance reporting, expanding training and capacity-building initiatives for journalists, and enhancing engagement between the media and stakeholders in the insurance industry.
