American pop superstar Katy Perry has apologised to fans after her highly anticipated performance at Belgium’s Werchter Boutique festival was cancelled at the last moment because of severe weather concerns and public safety risks. The decision was made shortly before she was due to take to the stage, following instructions from the local authorities, leaving tens of thousands of concertgoers disappointed.

In a message shared on social media on Saturday, Perry explained that she had already been backstage preparing for the performance when organisers informed her that the show could not go ahead. She said the cancellation resulted from official guidance issued in response to the approaching adverse weather conditions, making it clear that the decision was entirely beyond her control.
