Khamenei Issues New Military Directives

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has held a meeting with senior military commander Ali Abdullahi, according to the country’s state broadcaster IRIB. During the meeting, Khamenei reportedly praised the performance of Iran’s armed forces and issued what were described as “new measures and operational guidelines” for confronting hostile forces. No further details regarding the directives were disclosed.

The meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran and the United States, as well as continuing security concerns across the Middle East. Iranian state media did not specify the exact nature of the discussions, but the reported emphasis on military preparedness reflects Tehran’s continued focus on defence and regional security issues.

Since assuming the position of Supreme Leader in March this year, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly. Most of his statements and directives have instead been delivered through written messages or recorded broadcasts carried by Iranian state media. The meeting with military leadership is therefore being viewed as a significant official engagement under his leadership.

Analysts have noted that the timing of the meeting is important given the broader geopolitical climate in the region. Tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, alongside ongoing regional confrontations, have increased concerns over maritime security and military escalation. In this context, Iran appears to be reinforcing its military readiness and strategic coordination.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated that its air defence systems had successfully intercepted two drones launched from Iran. In a statement issued by the UAE Ministry of Defence, authorities said the country’s air defence network had intercepted a total of 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,265 drones since the beginning of Iran’s recent military operations.

The UAE further stated that its defence systems remain on maximum alert to safeguard regional security and respond to potential threats. Emirati officials said the country’s military remains prepared to address any escalation affecting its territory or airspace.

The developments reflect the continuing volatility in the Middle East, where opposing positions adopted by Iran and Gulf states have contributed to a more complex regional security environment. Military activity, missile interceptions, and heightened defence measures continue to shape the strategic landscape across the Gulf region.
