Lady Gaga and Doechii have jointly released the single “Runway”, accompanied by a stylised music video issued on 27 April. The track represents the first musical release linked to the forthcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2. Songwriting credits include Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Jaylah Hickmon (Doechii), Andrew Watt, Henry Walter, Dernst “D’Mile” Emile II and Jayda Love.
The video, directed by Parris Goebel, opens with both performers presented within a single oversized red blazer, styled with coordinated black ties and white shirts. The introduction features a spoken refrain delivered in unison: “No matter what, no matter what / You got to strut.” This sequence establishes the visual tone, centred on performance and fashion imagery.
Subsequent scenes transition into a series of avant-garde settings. Lady Gaga performs verses emphasising individuality and visibility, while the visual composition incorporates elements commonly associated with high-fashion editorial shoots. The production later introduces coordinated 18th-century-inspired gowns, paired with theatrical make-up and stylised hair design, reinforcing the historical and contemporary fusion present throughout the video.
Doechii performs a pre-chorus verse referencing runway presentation and audience interaction. The lyrics highlight movement, confidence and performance within both fashion and dance contexts. The two artists then perform together in the chorus, reinforcing the recurring theme of transforming everyday environments into performative spaces akin to fashion runways. The video concludes with a repetition of the central refrain asserting that they were “born for the runway”.
The release marks the first collaboration between Lady Gaga and Doechii. Prior to this project, both artists had publicly acknowledged each other’s work. In an interview with British Vogue in July 2025, Lady Gaga stated that she “fell in love” with Doechii’s music, noting the strength of her songwriting. Doechii later responded in an interview with People, stating that she was a long-time admirer of Lady Gaga and described the recognition as significant.
The video contains several references to The Devil Wears Prada franchise. The title “Runway” mirrors the name of the fictional fashion magazine central to the narrative. In one scene, the performers are shown holding a magazine bearing that title, featuring the character Emily Charlton on the cover, portrayed by Emily Blunt.
The sequel film reunites principal cast members including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna also return, following their involvement in the original 2006 adaptation of the novel by Lauren Weisberger. The narrative continues to follow the professional relationship between Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly within an evolving fashion and media landscape.
