A large underground tunnel has been discovered in a garden in West Lakshmipur village under Dalal Bazar Union in Sadar Upazila, Lakshmipur, drawing significant local attention. The structure, dug beneath the soil within a garden area near an abandoned zamindar house, was concealed with bamboo and tree branches, making it undetectable from the outside.
Inside the tunnel, investigators and locals reported the presence of a stairway for entry and exit, along with bedding materials such as mattresses and pillows. The space was reportedly large enough to accommodate three to four people at a time. According to local residents, the tunnel had allegedly been used as a concealed location for drug consumption and distribution activities.
A video of the site circulated on the social media platform Facebook, which heightened public concern and prompted further scrutiny. Following the circulation of the footage, local residents took the initiative on Thursday to demolish the tunnel.

Local residents alleged that a young man named Sujon Saha, along with associates, constructed the tunnel. They further claimed that he and his associates frequently gathered there, and that he was regularly involved in drug consumption at the site. Following the public exposure of the matter, he reportedly went into hiding.
When contacted, Sujon Saha’s wife stated that her husband had built the tunnel. However, she said she was not aware whether drug consumption took place there.
The chairman of Dalal Bazar Union Parishad, Nazrul Islam, said he learned about the tunnel from local residents. He stated that the individual who constructed it was a regular drug user and that the tunnel had reportedly been built beneath the garden for the purpose of facilitating drug consumption.
Officer-in-Charge of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station, Md Wahid Parvez, confirmed that police visited the site after receiving information. He said the tunnel was identified on inspection, and locals alleged that drug use had taken place there. Subsequently, the structure was demolished to prevent further drug-related activity.
The incident has raised concerns among residents of the area, particularly regarding concealed structures being used for illicit activities. Police have stated that further monitoring and necessary legal steps will be taken in accordance with the findings.
