A man has died following a violent mob attack after being accused of involvement in a burglary in Singair Upazila, located in central Bangladesh. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in the Syaesta Union area, specifically in the Baindail (Jianagar) village, according to local authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Rajib (39), son of Fulbar, a resident of Dattakhond village under Nawabganj Upazila in Dhaka. His death has been confirmed by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) Fahim Asjad.
Incident Background
According to local residents, a group of four to five individuals allegedly carried out a burglary at the residence of Mohammad Hakim Ali on Sunday night. The intruders reportedly broke into the tin-shed house by cutting through the window grill. Rajib is alleged to have entered the house while others remained outside, acting as accomplices.
It is claimed that he collected cash and gold ornaments from inside the home and passed them to his associates. However, the situation escalated when the homeowner became aware of the intrusion and attempted to resist. A physical altercation broke out between Hakim Ali and the alleged intruder, during which Hakim Ali sustained injuries.
Following his cries for help, local residents gathered at the scene. One of the alleged intruders, Rajib, was apprehended by villagers. He was subsequently subjected to a mob beating, which proved fatal at the scene. The remaining suspects reportedly fled the area.
Hakim Ali was later transported in injured condition to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for advanced medical treatment.
His elder brother, Hukom Ali, stated that the group of burglars had taken approximately 400,000 Bangladeshi taka and four bhori of gold jewellery from the house. He also confirmed that one of the alleged intruders was caught by villagers and beaten to death.

Police from Singair Upazila recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Manikganj Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Law enforcement officials have indicated that legal procedures are underway and that a case is being prepared in connection with the incident.
Authorities have also stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining individuals allegedly involved in the burglary.
