Messi Sets New MLS Record

Inter Miami returned to winning form in Major League Soccer (MLS) with a commanding 4–2 victory over Toronto FC. The match, played at BMO Field in Toronto, featured a landmark individual performance from Lionel Messi, who registered one goal and two assists to set a new MLS record.

Miami responded strongly after a previous 4–3 defeat to Orlando City, producing a disciplined attacking display throughout the contest. Messi was directly involved in three of his side’s four goals. He provided assists for Luis Suárez’s goal in the 56th minute and for Sergio Reguilón in the 73rd minute. Two minutes later, in the 75th minute, he scored himself from an assist by Rodrigo De Paul.

This performance took Messi to a historic milestone in MLS. He became the fastest player in the league’s regular-season history to reach 100 goal contributions, achieving the feat in just 64 matches. Across those appearances, he has recorded 59 goals and 41 assists.

To place this achievement in context, the previous record holder was Sebastian Giovinco, who reached 100 goal contributions in 95 matches for Toronto FC, comprising 58 goals and 42 assists. Robbie Keane of LA Galaxy reached the same milestone in 96 matches.
