A 32-year-old man has reportedly died by suicide in Mollahat Upazila following what police and local sources described as a period of domestic discord.

The deceased, identified as Hafiz Sheikh, son of Abubakkar Sheikh, was a resident of Char Kuliya village in the same upazila. He was married and is survived by one son and one daughter. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on Thursday (14 May) at around 7:00 am inside his residential house.

Local accounts indicate that Hafiz Sheikh was found hanging from a beam inside the room using a traditional scarf-like cloth (locally known as a gamcha). Family members and neighbours later informed authorities, after which police arrived at the scene and initiated standard procedures.

Officers from Mollahat Police Station stated that the body was recovered from the house and a formal inquest report was prepared on-site. The remains were subsequently sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and complete medico-legal formalities.

Police further confirmed that an unnatural death (UD) case has been registered in connection with the incident. They added that further legal steps will depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination and subsequent investigation.

While law enforcement has primarily cited domestic conflict as a possible contributing factor, officials have not released detailed conclusions, emphasising that the investigation remains ongoing.
