A tragic road traffic incident in the Demra area of Dhaka has resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man following a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup van near the slope of the Sultana Kamal Bridge adjacent to Demra Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Md Saddam Mia (33), an employee of a private firm. He was a resident of Masabo village in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district and lived there with his family. His father’s name is Abdul Latif.
According to police, the accident occurred on Thursday morning (7 May) at approximately 10:00 am while the victim was travelling by motorcycle towards his workplace. The collision took place on the bridge approach road near the police station area when his motorcycle came into contact with a pickup van. The impact left him critically injured at the scene.
Md Saddam Mia was promptly rescued after the incident was reported and was transported to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. However, attending physicians declared him dead at around 11:00 am.
The body has since been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, police confirmed. Authorities also stated that the victim’s family has been informed of the incident.
Sub-Inspector Kakon of Demra Police Station confirmed the matter on Thursday, stating that initial police action was taken immediately after receiving information about the accident. An investigation is expected to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the collision, including how the vehicles came into contact on the bridge approach road.
Road accidents involving motorcycles remain a recurring concern in Dhaka and surrounding metropolitan areas, particularly on busy arterial routes and bridge access roads where traffic flow is often dense and mixed. Such incidents frequently result in serious injuries or fatalities due to the vulnerability of motorcyclists in collisions with heavier vehicles.
