Police in Madaripur’s Kalkini upazila have arrested a man identified as a suspect in multiple criminal cases involving serious allegations, including murder, rape, theft, robbery, mugging, and extortion. Authorities state that a total of 17 cases have been filed against him in connection with various alleged offences.
The arrest was confirmed on Thursday morning (7 May) through a press release issued by the local police station.
According to police and local sources, the arrested individual is Faisal Talukder, son of Bazlu Talukder from Kalai Sardarer Char village under East Enayetnagar Union in Kalkini upazila. He is accused of being involved in criminal activities for a prolonged period across at least five unions within the upazila.
Law enforcement officials allege that he had been exerting influence in the area and was linked to a range of criminal acts, including violent offences and organised extortion networks. His activities reportedly contributed to a climate of fear in parts of the locality, although these claims remain under investigation through the ongoing legal process.
Recent allegations have also been reported in the area, including a case involving the alleged rape of an expatriate’s wife. Following the incident, the victim’s family is said to have left the locality due to security concerns. Additionally, local residents have expressed suspicion regarding his possible involvement in the recovery of the body of a tea stall owner in the same area, though police have not confirmed any direct link beyond public speculation and ongoing inquiries.
Police emphasised that investigations are continuing into all pending cases associated with the suspect. Efforts are also underway to identify and locate any individuals believed to be connected with him in relation to the reported offences.
Superintendent of Police in Madaripur, Mohammad Habibur Rahman, stated that the suspect had been attempting to evade arrest for some time. He further confirmed that investigations into the multiple cases filed against him are ongoing, and legal procedures are being followed to identify his associates and any wider network of involvement.
