Forty days after his previous five-wicket haul, on 11 March and 20 April respectively, Nahid Rana once again delivered a five-wicket performance at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The Bangladesh fast bowler achieved the feat during the second ODI of the series against New Zealand. With this latest performance, he has now taken 19 wickets in just 10 One Day Internationals.
In doing so, Rana has entered an elite list of Bangladesh bowlers who have made a significant impact at the start of their ODI careers. Only two players have taken more wickets than him in their first 10 ODI appearances for Bangladesh, both of whom are fast bowlers: Mustafizur Rahman and Ebadot Hossain.
First 10 ODIs – Bangladesh Bowling Records
| Bowler | Wickets | Average | 4/5-wicket hauls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mustafizur Rahman | 28 | 13.68 | 0/3 |
| Ebadot Hossain | 20 | 19.50 | 2/0 |
| Ariful Sani | 19 | 19.68 | 2/1 |
| Taskin Ahmed | 19 | 24.00 | 0/1 |
| Nahid Rana | 19 | 24.57 | 0/2 |
Mustafizur Rahman set a remarkable benchmark in 2015 during his breakthrough ODI series against India in Mirpur. He took five wickets on debut, followed by six in his second match, finishing the three-match series with 13 wickets. Over his first 10 ODIs, he collected 28 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls.
Ebadot Hossain also made a strong start to his ODI career, taking 20 wickets in his first 10 matches, with two four-wicket hauls. Ariful Sani and Taskin Ahmed both registered 19 wickets in the same span, though with different patterns of wicket-taking impact.
Nahid Rana now joins this group with 19 wickets, having also recorded two five-wicket hauls within his first 10 ODIs. However, his bowling average of 24.57 places him behind the top performers in terms of efficiency.
On the global stage, the record for the most wickets in the first 10 ODIs remains 29, held by New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, who achieved the milestone in 2013. He broke the previous record of 28 wickets set by former West Indies pacer Otis Gibson.
Rana’s inclusion among Bangladesh’s most productive early-career ODI bowlers highlights his rapid rise in limited-overs cricket, placing him in direct comparison with the most successful fast bowlers the country has produced in this format.
