Nemesis Marks Twenty-Five Years With Commemorative Solo Concert

Nemesis, a cornerstone of the Bangladeshi alternative rock genre, has completed twenty-five years of musical activity. To honour this quarter-century milestone, the band is set to host a landmark solo concert titled ‘Eto Diner Pore-o Je’ on 22 May. The event, hosted at the InterContinental Dhaka, is designed to be a retrospective journey, integrating live musical performances with the personal narratives and histories that have defined the group since its inception.

Origins and Formative Transitions

The band’s foundation was laid in 1999 by a group of college-bound youths. Following their secondary education, Saber and Rishad collaborated with Maher Khan and Yawar Mahbub to form the initial collective. Maher’s brother, Sabin, was also included in the early lineup. Their first public performance occurred during a New Year’s Eve celebration, which led to the recruitment of Zohad Reza Chowdhury, the band’s current frontman.

The official moniker ‘Nemesis’ was adopted in early 2000. Throughout the early 2000s, the band navigated several personnel changes due to members pursuing academic opportunities abroad. Significant additions during this period included Ratul, Nandito, Dio, and Omair. Despite these shifts, the group maintained a rigorous recording schedule, particularly during summer intervals when members returned to the country.

Discursive Milestones and Discography

The band achieved widespread recognition following the release of their single ‘Obocheton’ in the 2003 compilation album Agontuk-2. This success served as a catalyst for their first full-length studio production under the G-Series label.
