A devastating head-on collision in upstate New York has left four people dead, including three Bangladeshi nationals, and two others critically injured, in one of the most tragic road incidents reported in the region this year.
The fatal crash occurred on Monday evening (6 April), as a vehicle travelling from the Bronx towards Albany collided head-on with another car on Spook Rock Road in the Claverack area. According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the impact of the collision was severe, killing multiple occupants instantly at the scene.
Among the deceased were 29-year-old Nazmul Rubel, his father Hiramani, and a close friend who was travelling with them. Authorities also confirmed that a 62-year-old woman, who was in the second vehicle involved, died on the spot.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene shortly after the collision, but all four victims were pronounced dead due to the severity of their injuries.
Two additional passengers—a 33-year-old woman identified as Ratna and her one-year-old daughter—sustained critical injuries. They were immediately transported to Albany Medical Centre, where doctors have described their condition as life-threatening.
Local officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Early reports suggest that the collision occurred on a stretch of road known for limited visibility and winding turns, although authorities have not yet confirmed whether speed, weather conditions, or mechanical failure played a role.
All of the Bangladeshi victims and survivors are reported to be from Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla district, Bangladesh. The news has sent shockwaves through both the Bangladeshi-American community in New York and their hometown, where relatives are mourning the sudden and tragic loss.
