A young bride is currently fighting for her life in the intensive care unit after a tragic accident just one day after her wedding. Ipsana Begum, 20, was travelling with her newlywed husband, Mohammad Sanaullah, 26, on a motorcycle to Kaptai in Rangamati for a post-wedding outing when disaster struck.
According to reports, while riding through the scenic route, Ipsana’s borocha (traditional headscarf) became entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle. The sudden incident caused both the bride and groom to lose control and be thrown from the vehicle. Ipsana sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local health complex before being transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. She now remains under critical care in a private hospital in the city’s intensive care unit.
Her husband, Mohammad Sanaullah, originally a resident of Saudi Arabia, also sustained injuries, though they are reportedly less serious. Local sources said that the entanglement of Ipsana’s scarf with the wheel was the primary reason for the severity of her injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred in the Harin Gate area of Syed Bazar, Rangunia Upazila, Chattogram, just a few kilometres from their home. “They had barely covered five to seven kilometres when the tragic incident occurred,” said a relative, Muhammad Iqbal Hossain.
The newlyweds had tied the knot only the previous day, making the incident even more heartbreaking for their families. Ipsana is the daughter of Mohammad Hasan from Nischintapur, Hosnabad Union, while Mohammad Sanaullah is the son of Mohammad Zahir Ahmed of Bari’s house, Ward 8, Parua Union, Rangunia Upazila.
The couple was initially rescued by local residents and taken to the Upazila Health Complex. From there, doctors referred them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Due to the critical nature of Ipsana’s injuries, both were subsequently admitted to a private hospital for advanced medical care.
Rauzan-Rangunia police confirmed the incident. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Belayat Hossain stated that the newlywed couple was travelling to Kaptai when the tragic accident occurred. He added that both are currently receiving treatment in a private hospital in Chattogram.
This accident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of riding motorcycles with loose clothing, particularly during celebrations or long trips. Friends and relatives have been visiting the hospital to support the couple, while local authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution.
