Police Recover Seven-Year-Old Girl’s Body From Local Pond

Sherpur, Bangladesh – The lifeless body of a seven-year-old girl was recovered on Saturday morning from a pond adjacent to her home in Nakla, four days after she went missing.

The deceased, Reshmi Akter, the daughter of Md. Saiful Islam, was discovered in the Kayda Madhopara (Begunpotti) area of Nakla municipality. Police confirmed that the child had been reported missing on 16 December after leaving home to play and failing to return.

Despite an extensive search by family members and neighbours, Reshmi could not be located. Her father lodged a general diary at Nakla Police Station that same evening, formally reporting her disappearance.

According to Ripon Chandra Gop, Officer-in-Charge of Nakla Police Station, the child’s body was identified by her family at around 10 a.m. on Saturday when it was seen floating in a nearby pond. “Upon receiving the information, police promptly recovered the body. It has since been sent to the district headquarters hospital morgue for post-mortem examination,” he stated.

Local residents expressed their shock and sorrow at the tragic discovery. “It is devastating to lose such a young child in these circumstances. The community is in mourning,” said a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous.

The police have confirmed that further legal action is currently underway as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Reshmi’s death. No official cause has yet been released, pending the results of the post-mortem examination.
