The Adviser on Law to the Interim Government, Asif Nazrul, has announced that the transfer of power to the newly elected government will take place before the commencement of Ramadan, following the parliamentary elections scheduled for 17 and 18 February. He made the remarks on Thursday, 12 February, after casting his vote at the Siddheshwari Girls’ College polling station in Dhaka-8, under the jurisdiction of Ramna Police Station.
Speaking to journalists, Nazrul emphasised the historical significance of this election. “For generations, the people of Bangladesh were deprived of their right to vote,” he said. “It is through the determination, activism, and sacrifices of our youth and students that this fundamental right has been restored.”
He characterised the current election as far more than a routine democratic exercise. “This is not just an ordinary vote. It is a tribute to those who made sacrifices in July, standing up for democracy and the people’s rights,” Nazrul stated, referring to past movements that shaped Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
On the electoral atmosphere, the law adviser remarked that voting is proceeding in a festive and orderly manner. While acknowledging a few isolated incidents, he noted that these should not be considered representative of the nation’s voting culture.
