Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will travel to face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final without Achraf Hakimi, after the club confirmed the right-back has been ruled out due to a thigh injury. The Moroccan defender sustained the injury during the first leg and will miss the return fixture scheduled for Wednesday evening. PSG won the first leg at home 5–4.
Hakimi picked up the injury following a collision with Bayern defender Konrad Laimer during the opening leg. Although PSG had already used all permitted substitutions, Hakimi continued playing despite discomfort and completed the match. He also contributed an assist in the game, setting up a goal scored by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
In an official statement, PSG confirmed the severity of the issue, stating: “Achraf Hakimi will be out for several weeks after suffering a right thigh injury during the match against Bayern Munich.”
The club has also been dealt another setback with the injury of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. The French goalkeeper sustained a thigh injury during a training session on Wednesday morning. He has not featured for PSG since January and is also expected to be sidelined for several weeks. In the first leg against Bayern Munich, Russian goalkeeper Matvei Safonov started in goal, while Chevalier remained on the bench.
Injury Status Overview
| Player | Position | Injury | Expected Recovery Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Achraf Hakimi | Right-back | Right thigh injury | Several weeks |
| Lucas Chevalier | Goalkeeper | Thigh injury | Several weeks |
Hakimi’s absence is a significant setback for PSG ahead of the decisive second leg in Munich. The defender has been an important figure for both club and country, and was ranked sixth in the Ballon d’Or standings last year. His unavailability will be closely felt in a fixture of such magnitude.
The Moroccan international is also a key player for his national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Morocco, who reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, are scheduled to begin their 2026 campaign against Brazil on 13 June. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, beginning on 11 June.
PSG, meanwhile, maintain their focus on domestic commitments as well. Before travelling to Germany for the Champions League return leg, Luis Enrique’s side will face Lorient in Ligue 1 on Saturday. The Paris club currently sit top of the table with 69 points from 30 matches, holding a six-point advantage over second-placed Lens.
The double injury concern adds to PSG’s selection challenges at a crucial stage of the season, with both defensive and goalkeeping options affected ahead of one of their most important fixtures in European competition.
