Scotland have moved to the top of Group C in the FIFA World Cup 2026 after the first round of matches, following a 1–0 victory over Haiti. The result places the Scottish side ahead of Brazil and Morocco in the group standings.
The only goal of the match came in the 28th minute, when John McGinn’s shot deflected twice before finding its way into the Haitian net. Earlier in the match, Scott McTominay came close to scoring when his attempt struck the post and rebounded into play. Haiti created several fast-paced attacking moves that put the Scottish defence under pressure at intervals, but they were unable to score an equaliser before full time. The result marked Scotland’s first World Cup win since 1990.
In the other Group C fixture played on the same day, Brazil and Morocco drew 1–1. Morocco took the lead in the 21st minute when Ismael Saibari finished a swift counter-attacking move following a through ball from Brahim Díaz. Brazil equalised in the 32nd minute through Vinícius Júnior, who cut in from the left side and scored with a right-footed curling shot into the top corner.
Following the opening round of matches, Scotland lead the group with three points, while Brazil and Morocco share one point each after their draw. Haiti remain without a point.
