According to local sources and allegations from the victim’s family, the violent encounter is linked to a prior legal dispute between the two parties. On 23 May, Anwar Hossain Bhola, son of Kodom Ali from Gorgori village, filed a criminal case against Rahat Ali Pramanik, a local grocery shop owner. The lawsuit alleged that Rahat Ali Pramanik had molested Anwar’s four-year-old daughter. Following the filing of the case, law enforcement personnel arrested Rahat Ali Pramanik, and he was subsequently remanded to prison, where he remains detained.
The family of the imprisoned grocer, Rahat Ali Pramanik, stated that the confrontation began when his wife, Kolpona Khatun, visited the residence of Anwar Hossain Bhola on Monday afternoon. Her objective was to collect an outstanding debt of approximately 5,000 BDT owed to their grocery shop.
An argument ensued between the parties regarding the unpaid balance. The dispute escalated when Anwar Hossain Bhola, along with his mother, Runi Begum, and his sister-in-law, Rimi Khatun, allegedly assaulted Kolpona Khatun.
Upon receiving information about the physical assault, other members of Rahat Ali Pramanik’s family arrived at the scene, causing the confrontation to spiral into a broader clash between the two factions. At least seven people sustained injuries during the ensuing violence, with identified casualties including Faruk Hossain, Abdul Momin, and Torikul Islam Tushar. All injured persons were subsequently admitted to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment.

The family of Rahat Ali Pramanik has leveled further counter-allegations against their opponents. They claim that following the initial assault, Anwar Hossain Bhola’s family intentionally vandalised and set fire to their own residential property. According to the grocer’s family, this arson was a deliberate attempt to alter the narrative of the event and falsely implicate them in a separate criminal act. The accusers asserted that they possess video footage documenting the opposition setting fire to their own house.
Attempts were made to contact the accused party, Anwar Hossain Bhola, via telephone to obtain his statement regarding the assault and the arson allegations. However, his mobile phone remained switched off, rendering it impossible to record his version of the events.
