Six Rooms Damaged in Ramgarh School Fire

A fire has caused extensive damage to six rooms at a secondary school in Patashura Union of Ramgarh Upazila in Khagrachhari district.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Kolabari High School. According to local residents, the blaze is believed to have started in one of the school rooms at around 7:30 p.m. It subsequently spread to adjoining rooms within a short period, affecting multiple parts of the building before emergency services were alerted.

Following notification of the incident, two units of the Ramgarh Fire Service and Civil Defence were deployed to the site. Firefighters worked continuously for approximately one hour before bringing the fire under control. Officials indicated that prompt action helped prevent further spread to additional structures within the school premises.

The headmaster of Kolabari High School, Abdul Kader, told the media that the fire resulted in significant damage to the head teacher’s room as well as several classrooms. He confirmed that furniture, computers, and important administrative documents were destroyed in the incident, affecting both academic and administrative resources of the institution.

Fire Service authorities stated that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The officer in charge of Ramgarh Fire Service Station, Bisswanto Barua, said that an investigation would be required to establish both the origin of the blaze and the full extent of the losses incurred.

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and president of the school management committee, Kazi Shamim, also confirmed that although the fire had been extinguished, considerable damage had already occurred to school infrastructure. He added that further investigation would be conducted to identify the cause and assess the overall impact on the institution.

Kolabari High School was established in 2022 as part of a local administrative initiative aimed at expanding educational access in the remote Kolabari area. The destruction of multiple classrooms is expected to disrupt regular academic activities, potentially affecting teaching schedules and the use of learning materials in the short term.

At this stage, authorities have not released any detailed assessment of total financial losses, and no official conclusion has been reached regarding how the fire began.
