Yaba Seizure Leads to Arrest

Police in Biswanath Upazila have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered a substantial quantity of yaba tablets in a pre-dawn operation, as part of ongoing anti-narcotics efforts in the region. The detainee, identified as Faruk Ahmed, aged 40, was found in possession of 2,600 yaba pills during the অভিযান.

According to police sources, the operation was conducted in the early hours of Saturday in the Golchand Bazar area under Lamakazi ইউনিয়ন. Acting on confidential intelligence, law enforcement personnel carried out a targeted অভিযান, during which Faruk Ahmed was apprehended on suspicion. A subsequent search led to the উদ্ধার of the ইয়াবা consignment from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to the থানায় for further legal processing.

Faruk Ahmed is a resident of West Loharmohol village in Zakiganj Upazila and is the son of the late Nur Uddin. Preliminary interrogation suggests that he had been actively involved in illicit drug trafficking for an extended period. Authorities believe he played a role in supplying yaba tablets across multiple এলাকায়, indicating the presence of a broader distribution network.

Confirming the arrest on Sunday, Officer-in-Charge Gazi Mahbubur Rahman of Biswanath Police Station stated that a case has been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act. He further revealed that Faruk Ahmed has a significant criminal record, with at least 12 previous cases related to narcotics registered against him in different থানাগুলো across Sylhet District. This pattern, according to পুলিশ officials, underscores the आरोपी’s long-standing involvement in drug-related offences.

Following the completion of initial legal formalities, the accused was produced before the court on Sunday দুপুর, where further proceedings are expected to determine the course of justice.

Law enforcement agencies report that intensified anti-drug অভিযানগুলো in recent months have led to a noticeable increase in arrests linked to narcotics offences. বিশেষ করে yaba trafficking networks are being systematically identified and disrupted through coordinated operations. পুলিশ কর্মকর্তারা দাবি করেন that such efforts have contributed, to some extent, to curbing the local supply of illegal substances.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to continuing these অভিযানগুলো and have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative. Community awareness and participation, they emphasise, are essential in building a collective resistance against drug abuse and trafficking.
