In Rajshahi, a man named Rezaul Karim (65) died after being struck on the head with a stick by his son. The incident took place on Monday (22 June) at around 10:30 am in the Meherchandi Koiratola West Para area under Chandrima Police Station in the city. Police confirmed that the accused son, Rakibul Karim, has been absconding since the incident.
According to police and local sources, Rakibul Karim is a former student of the Department of Social Work at Rajshahi University. After completing his studies, he had been staying at home while preparing for employment. It is reported that he became involved in a domestic dispute between his parents.
On the morning of the incident, Rezaul Karim and his wife Anjuara Begum were engaged in an argument over family matters. At that time, Rakibul Karim sided with his mother during the dispute. The situation escalated, and he struck his father on the head with a bamboo stick, causing serious injuries and heavy bleeding.
Locals rescued the injured Rezaul Karim and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Police and local residents further reported that the deceased Rezaul Karim and his wife had been involved in frequent domestic disputes over various family issues. On Monday morning as well, tensions between them reportedly continued before the incident occurred.
After the assault, Rakibul Karim left the scene on a motorcycle and has not been located since.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gaziur Rahman stated that, based on preliminary information, the incident does not appear to be a premeditated murder. However, he confirmed that the father died as a result of injuries sustained from the son’s blow during the domestic dispute. He added that preparations are underway to file a murder case, and police are conducting operations to arrest the accused. The body was sent to the Rajshahi Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination and was later handed over to the family.
