Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a sudden flash procession organised by members of the now-banned student wing in Purbadhala upazila of Netrakona district.
The case was filed on Saturday afternoon at Purbadhala Police Station by Md. Muslem Uddin Fakir, joint convenor of the upazila unit of the Krishak Dal. In the complaint, student activist Jahidul Hasan, also known as Akash Mir, has been named as the main accused. The case also lists 80 named individuals alongside approximately 25 unidentified persons.
According to the complaint and police accounts, the incident took place early on Friday morning at around 6:30am in the Narandia Bazar area along the Netrakona–Mymensingh road. A group of activists held a brief flash procession that lasted only a few minutes. Despite its short duration, the event quickly drew attention after a video of the march circulated widely on social media.
Authorities said a 1 minute 50 second clip of the procession was later uploaded to a verified social media page associated with the student organisation. Several local political activists from allied groups also shared the footage from their personal accounts, amplifying its reach online.
Police further stated that the procession was led by Purbadhala upazila student wing joint general secretary Muntasir Masud Khan (Fahim) and activist Jahidul Hasan. In the circulated video, participants were seen carrying a banner bearing a slogan referencing political messaging and a return of former leadership. Many of those taking part had their faces partially covered with masks, towels or cloths, a detail noted by investigators as part of their inquiry.
Following the incident, law enforcement officers launched an operation and detained three individuals during the night. The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Fazlul Karim, former organising secretary of the Bishkakunia Union unit of a political affiliate organisation, Anwar Hossain Talukder from Pailati Dakshinpara village, and Anwar Hossain, a student activist from Kalihor Maizpara village.
Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that a case has been registered over the flash procession. He added that the arrested individuals are being produced before the court, while efforts continue to detain the remaining named and unidentified suspects.
Police investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
