Three Unnatural Deaths Recorded in Thakurgaon District

Three separate fatalities, including that of a young woman, have been recorded across the Sadar, Bhulli, and Ranisankail upazilas of Thakurgaon District. Law enforcement authorities recovered hanging bodies in two of the instances, whilst the third individual succumbed in hospital after consuming toxic rodenticide tablets. The incidents occurred between Saturday night, 20 June 2026, and Sunday morning, 21 June 2026. Local police have registered cases of unnatural death (UD) for all three occurrences.

Hanging Body of Young Woman Recovered in Sadar

According to Thakurgaon Sadar Police, the body of 22-year-old Nusrat Jahan Iti was recovered from a rented apartment within the district town. She was originally a resident of Dakshin Sandarai village under Ranisankail Upazila.

Her family members stated that she had relocated to Thakurgaon town approximately five months ago in search of employment. The family last communicated with her on 17 June, after which contact was lost. On the night of 19 June, a friend of Iti telephoned her family to report that Iti had not left her room or answered her telephone for two days. The following day, her relatives visited the rented property and found the door locked from the inside. Upon breaking open the door, they discovered her hanging from a window grille by a scarf. The police subsequently transported the body to the station. Her family noted that she had been under significant psychological duress due to being unemployed, and they filed a written statement to the police confirming they held no grievances against anyone.

Fatalities Reported in Bhulli and Ranisankail Upazilas

In a separate incident in the Kachubari area under Bhulli Police Station, a 35-year-old farmer identified as Mahabur Rahman passed away. Rahman was a father of two children. His family reported that he had a chronic addiction to online gambling and casinos, which had led to substantial financial losses and subsequent domestic instability.

His father, Harun Or Rashid, informed the police that his son fell ill with vomiting and abdominal pain late on Saturday night. While being transported to the hospital, Rahman disclosed to his relatives that he had ingested three gas tablets intended for killing rats. He passed away at 6:40 am on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital. The family raised no allegations against any individual regarding this death.

Concurrently, an elderly man named Nasir Uddin, aged 67, was found dead in Ujdhari village under the Hosengaon Union of Ranisankail Upazila. His family members stated that he had been suffering from long-term psychological issues and had failed to recover despite receiving various treatments. On Saturday night, relatives went to his room to call him for dinner. Receiving no response, they entered the room and discovered him hanging from an iron angle bar of the structure with a rope. The body was lowered with the assistance of local residents, and the family raised no complaints.
