Tragic Road Collision Claims Two Lives in Nachol

Two motorcyclists have been killed in a devastating road accident in Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj district, following a head-on collision with a truck in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 6:00 am on 3 May at Benipur along the Nachol–Adda road. According to initial reports, the crash has left the local community in deep shock, reigniting concerns over road safety and vehicle speed regulation in the area.

The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Robiul Awal Jisan, son of Mozammel from Balutongi village in Shibganj upazila, and 17-year-old Sohel (locally known as Sohag), son of Salam from Azipur village in Nachol upazila.

Preliminary information suggests that Sohel was riding the motorcycle with his brother-in-law, Robiul Awal Jisan, who worked at the Naogaon office of the Anti-Corruption Commission. Jisan had been staying at his in-laws’ house on leave and was reportedly heading back to his workplace that morning. Sohel accompanied him to drop him off at the Adda area. While travelling through Benipur, their motorcycle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact was severe, resulting in the instant death of both riders at the scene.

Locals rushed to the spot immediately after the crash and informed Nachol Police Station. Police and fire service personnel later arrived, recovered the bodies, and secured the area. Traffic movement on the road was briefly disrupted as authorities carried out initial investigative procedures.

Police confirmed that the truck involved in the accident has been seized, although the driver managed to flee the scene. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend him. An official investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.

Nachol Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukomal Chandra Deb stated that legal proceedings are in progress and further inquiry is ongoing.

Local residents have highlighted that the Nachol–Adda road witnesses frequent movement of fast-moving vehicles during early morning hours, often without adequate monitoring. They have called for stricter enforcement of speed regulations, improved traffic surveillance, and enhanced road safety measures to prevent further fatalities.

The tragic accident has once again drawn attention to persistent road safety challenges in rural transport corridors, where enforcement and infrastructure often lag behind growing vehicular movement.
