Two Killed in Highway Collision

Two people have been confirmed dead following a road traffic collision on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 am on Thursday in the Tipordi area of the highway.

According to highway police sources, the accident took place on the Dhaka-bound lane when a covered van was stationary by the roadside. A mini truck, travelling from behind, collided forcefully with the parked vehicle. The impact resulted in severe injuries to the driver and the assistant of the mini truck.

Local residents assisted in the rescue operation and subsequently transported the injured individuals to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex. Upon examination, the attending medical officer declared both of them dead.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ali (35), son of the late Mohammad Ali of Basabo-Adarshpur under Kotwali upazila of Barishal, and Md Monir Hossain (28), son of Malek Hossain from Galachipa under Monirampur upazila of Jashore.

Police from the Kanchpur Highway unit confirmed the incident and stated that both vehicles involved in the collision have been seized for further investigation. The bodies have been sent to the Narayanganj District General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are currently underway.

Officials indicated that the precise circumstances leading to the collision are under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the mini truck struck the stationary covered van from behind while travelling along the Dhaka-bound carriageway of the highway.

Kanchpur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Shামীম শেখ confirmed the incident and stated that necessary legal measures are being taken. He further noted that the seized vehicles will be examined as part of the ongoing inquiry to determine responsibility and contributing factors.

The Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is one of the country’s busiest transport corridors, frequently accommodating heavy goods vehicles, passenger transport, and long-distance traffic. Accidents involving rear-end collisions are a recurring concern on this route, particularly during night-time hours when visibility and traffic flow conditions can vary.
