Veteran Journalist Habibullah Dies

ASM Habibullah, a life member and former General Secretary of the National Press Club, and a distinguished journalist, has died (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un).

He passed away at 5:30 am on Saturday, 11 April, at his residence, Abdullah Villa, located in the Sankipara area of Mymensingh city. He was 91 years old. According to information provided, he had been suffering from various age-related health complications for a prolonged period.

Born in 1935 in Mymensingh, ASM Habibullah had a long professional career in journalism. He served as the Chief News Editor (CNE) of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and also worked as the Bangladesh representative of the Voice of America. Through these roles, he was associated with both national and international media organisations over the course of his career.

He is survived by one son, four daughters, and a large number of relatives, colleagues, and well-wishers.

Funeral arrangements

His funeral prayers (Janazah) were held on Saturday after the Isha prayers at a mosque adjacent to Sankipara Primary School in Mymensingh. Following the prayers, he was laid to rest at the family graveyard.

The President of the National Press Club, Hasan Hafiz, and the General Secretary, Aiyub Bhuiyan, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and condolences at his death. In the statement, they prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
