A tragic road accident in Mirsharai, Chattogram, claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman after she was run over by a passenger bus while crossing the road to visit a neighbour’s residence.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on Wednesday near College Gate along the Baraiyarhat–Khagrachhari road in Mirsharai. According to local sources, the victim, identified as Azma Begum Siraji (60), was attempting to cross the busy roadway when the accident took place.
Azma Begum was the wife of Iftekhar Ahmed and originally resided in the South Charipur area of Feni municipal town. Her family had reportedly been living in a rented house near the College Gate area for an extended period. On the night of the incident, she was on her way to a neighbouring house when she was struck by a bus belonging to the Shanti Paribahan service. The impact caused her immediate death at the scene.
Eyewitnesses described the moment of the collision as sudden and unavoidable. A local shopkeeper, Md Harun-ur-Rashid, stated that the woman was crossing the road when the bus hit her, leaving her critically injured with no chance of survival. Residents in the vicinity quickly gathered after the incident and informed the authorities.
Police from Jorarganj Police Station arrived shortly afterwards, recovered the body, and transported it for necessary legal procedures. The bus involved in the accident was seized by law enforcement for further investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that appropriate legal steps are being taken in connection with the incident. However, no immediate arrests were reported at the time of filing this report.
