A 30-year-old man was found dead beside an abandoned flower mill in Gaibandha’s Gobindaganj on Monday morning, hours after he was reportedly called out of his home at night on the pretext of having a conversation. The recovery of the body has sparked concern and speculation in the local community, while police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased was identified as Laizu, son of the late Abul Kashem, from Nayapara, also known locally as Felukara, in Kamardaha Union of Gobindaganj upazila.
According to his family and local residents, Laizu had been missing since Sunday night. His mother said that at around 8pm, a man named Shahinur, who lives in the same village, came to their home and asked Laizu to accompany him, saying that he needed to discuss something with him.
Laizu subsequently left home but did not return during the night. His family became increasingly worried as the hours passed. On Monday morning, they were informed that a body had been found beside an abandoned flower mill near Mogam Tuli village, close to Phansitala Bazaar and the Dhaka-Rangpur highway.
Several local people reportedly noticed the body lying beside the abandoned building early on Monday and informed the police. Officers from Gobindaganj Police Station then went to the scene and recovered the body.
The circumstances of the death remained unclear at the time of the recovery. Police did not immediately confirm whether Laizu had died from injuries, an assault or any other cause. Investigators are expected to examine the scene and gather information from people who may have seen or spoken to him before his death.
Police said the body was being processed in accordance with legal procedures. After preparation of the inquest report, arrangements were being made to send it for post-mortem examination. The examination is expected to provide important evidence regarding the nature and possible cause of death.
Gobindaganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Swapan Kumar Sarker said the body had been recovered and preparations were under way to send it for post-mortem examination after completion of the inquest. He added that an investigation was continuing to establish the actual circumstances of the death.
The fact that Laizu was reportedly taken from his home on Sunday night is being treated as a significant part of the investigation. Police are seeking to establish who accompanied him, where he went afterwards, what happened near the abandoned mill and how he ultimately died.
Family members are also awaiting clear answers about the circumstances in which Laizu lost his life. At present, however, no definitive conclusion can be drawn about the cause of death or whether any individual was responsible.
News of the body’s recovery quickly spread around Phansitala Bazaar and surrounding areas, causing anxiety among residents. The location beside the highway and near an abandoned industrial building has also drawn attention from locals.
Police said the investigation and post-mortem findings would be crucial in determining the cause of death and deciding what further legal action, if any, should be taken.
