Eleven-Party Alliance Challenges Results in 30 Constituencies

The integrity of the 13th National Parliamentary Election has come under intense scrutiny as an eleven-party alliance formally lodged complaints with the Election Commission (EC) today. Citing widespread irregularities and systematic “vote-rigging,” the delegation arrived at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, at approximately 11:45 am on Sunday to demand a comprehensive recount across 30 specific constituencies.

Allegations of “Overwriting” and “Electric Speed”

The formal move follows a scathing press conference held on Saturday by Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Jubayer, acting as a primary spokesperson for the alliance, detailed a litany of electoral discrepancies that he claims undermined the democratic process.

According to Jubayer, the alliance documented “extreme mismanagement” in 30 seats. The allegations include:

  • Document Tampering: Significant “overwriting” and “erasing” on official result sheets.

  • Inconsistent Reporting: While some constituencies experienced “unusual delays” in tallying, others announced results with “electric speed,” raising suspicions of predetermined outcomes.

  • Administrative Bias: Concerns that local Returning Officers ignored immediate complaints filed on election day.

“We have observed blatant fraudulence. The paperwork provided to our agents was riddled with corrections and inconsistencies,” Jubayer stated, adding that the alliance is prepared to pursue all available legal avenues to ensure transparency.

The alliance has identified a broad geographical spread of contested seats, spanning from the capital to the remote borders. The following table highlights the key constituencies where a formal recount has been requested:

A High-Stakes Delegation

The delegation to the Election Commission featured several high-ranking political figures, signaling the gravity of the alliance’s stance. Notable attendees included:

  • Maulana Abdul Halim, Member Secretary of the National Election Management Committee.

  • Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, Assistant Secretary General.

  • Barrister Najibaur Rahman Momen, the newly elected MP for Pabna-1.

  • Dr. Abdul Mannan, candidate for Dhaka-6.

The alliance is expected to brief the media further following their closed-door meeting with Chief Election Commission officials. This development places the EC under significant pressure to validate the 13th Parliament’s mandate amidst growing calls for accountability and electoral reform.
