During the holy month of Ramadan, the authorities of the illegal Israeli settlement set fire to a mosque in the West Bank.

During the sacred month of Ramadan, Israeli illegal settlers reportedly attacked a mosque in the occupied West Bank, setting it alight and scrawling racist slogans on its walls. The incident occurred on Monday, highlighting a continuing pattern of violence against Palestinian religious sites.

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, the attack targeted the Abu Bakr As-Siddiq Mosque, located between the villages of Sarra and Tall near Nablus in the northwestern West Bank.

Early in the morning, worshippers arriving for the Fajr prayers discovered the entrance engulfed in smoke and signs of fire damage. Munir Ramadan, who lives adjacent to the mosque, described the scene: “I opened the door and was stunned. The fire was still burning, glass and doors had been shattered.”

CCTV footage reportedly shows two individuals approaching the mosque carrying petrol and spray paint, and fleeing shortly afterwards. The attackers left offensive graffiti on the mosque walls, including derogatory references to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and words such as “Revenge” and “Price Tag.”

Violence by Israeli forces and illegal settler groups continues unabated across both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with religious and civilian sites frequently targeted.

The United Nations latest figures indicate that since the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, at least 1,094 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces and illegal settlers. A recent report from the UN Human Rights Council warns that these actions, including evictions and the destruction of homes, constitute elements of “ethnic cleansing.”

Palestinian authorities note a marked rise in attacks on religious institutions: in the previous year alone, 45 mosques across the West Bank were subjected to assault.
