Boalkhali, Chattogram — A local private tutor, Imtiaz Uddin, 25, has been arrested over allegations of sexually abusing children under the pretext of home tuition. The revelations have sparked deep concern and sorrow among parents and residents of the area.
Police reported that a Boalkhali Police Station team apprehended Imtiaz at his residence late on Wednesday night, 4 March. He resides in Purbogomdondi Munshipara, Ward 3 of Boalkhali Municipality, and is the son of Shawkat Habib.
According to initial investigations, Imtiaz had been conducting private tuition sessions at his home for the past one and a half to two years. During these sessions, he allegedly subjected children to sexual abuse and used threats to prevent them from disclosing the incidents. Police found that he deliberately manipulated the children to instil fear, ensuring they would not inform family members or friends.
Boalkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman stated, “Upon verifying the credibility of the allegations, the accused was taken into custody. During preliminary questioning, he confessed to the crimes. The affected children have been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for both medical and psychological evaluations. After filing the formal case, he has been remanded to judicial custody.”
Police reports indicate that four children were affected, including three girls and one boy. Their ages and genders are summarised below:
| Serial | Age (Years) | Gender |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 9 | Female |
| 2 | 8 | Female |
| 3 | 7 | Female |
| 4 | 6 | Male |
OC Rahman added, “Our investigation is ongoing to determine if there are additional individuals involved. It is crucial that parents remain alert, and our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of all children under our jurisdiction.”
Residents expressed shock and alarm over the incident, noting that such abuse under the guise of private tuition is particularly distressing for the community. Child protection experts emphasise the urgent need for parents and guardians to monitor children closely and to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
In response to the case, schools and educational institutions across Boalkhali and Chattogram have heightened security and supervision measures. Experts have urged teachers and caregivers to maintain safe, respectful, and transparent conduct when interacting with children to prevent exploitation and safeguard their well-being.
