Aurthohin Line-up Shake-up: Mark and Ehtesham Depart

The landscape of Bangladeshi rock has shifted once again as the legendary band Aurthohin, fronted by the iconic Saidus Salehin Sumon (affectionately known to fans as “Bassbaba”), announced a significant restructuring of its line-up. On Thursday, 5 March 2026, the band confirmed the departure of long-term drummer Mark Don and guitarist Ehtesham Ali, while simultaneously welcoming back a familiar face to the fold.

A Decade of Beats and a New Chapter

Mark Don, who has been the rhythmic heartbeat of Aurthohin for nearly a decade, announced his exit via a poignant Facebook post. His tenure covered a transformative era for the band, including numerous high-profile concerts and studio recordings. In an official statement, the band remarked, “A decade in the world of music is a lifetime; Mark’s memory will remain immortal in every beat of our albums and concerts.”

Conversely, the young guitarist Ehtesham Ali, who joined the troupe in January 2025, has parted ways after just over a year. While his stint was brief, his contribution during a period of live performance revival was noted by the band’s loyal following.

The Return of Shishir Ahmed

In a move that has sparked widespread excitement across the “Freak” (Aurthohin fan) community, lead guitarist Shishir Ahmed has officially returned to the band. Shishir, a virtuoso whose melodic sensibilities defined much of the band’s modern sound, had previously stepped away in 2023. His homecoming is seen as a return to the band’s classic sonic roots.

To further bolster the sound, Adnan Atiq has joined as a dual-threat keyboardist and guitarist, while Sheikh M. Reaz steps in as a guest drummer to fill the void left by Mark Don.

“The Soul Remains the Same”

Despite the revolving door of musicians, the band remains resolute in its creative mission. Writing to their supporters, Aurthohin stated:

“Though faces may change, the soul of Aurthohin remains exactly as it was. We shall return to the studio and prepare for the stage shortly—bringing back that familiar chaos and melody that you have always loved.”

With Shishir back in the ranks, fans are eagerly anticipating a new album, potentially the first full-length studio effort since the line-up began fluctuating in the early 2020s. The band is currently in rehearsals, aiming for a grand stage return later this year.
